Slow Worms and Other Reptiles
Work conducted
Assessment of habitat suitability, refugia surveys, reptile transects, translocation and destructive searches. Habitat creation and enhancement including construction of artificial hibernacula, preparation of plans covering habitat management for the benefit of reptiles.
The following works have recently been carried out:
- Refugia surveys and destructive surveys at development sites at Crewkerne, Yeovil, South Petherton and Norton Fitzwarren, Somerset.
- Translocation & destructive searches of two contiguous sites in Berkshire, involving all four common reptile species.
- Survey, identification of a suitable receptor site, negotiation for its use, and translocation of a significant number of slow worms in Paignton, Devon.
- Survey, design of mitigation (reptile fencing), translocation and destructive search on a complex brownfield site of a population of slow worms in South Gloucestershire.
- Translocation and supervision of habitat management schemes at Radstock, Bath and North East Somerset.
